Art makes the news! And why not? Long after folks have forgotten who passed what bylaw, or who insulted whom over the latest community controversy, paintings will be admired and debated, songs long-since composed sung, sculptures pondered, books read... Culture is actually one of the most important aspects of any society, and that's as true here in Kaslo as it is in Toronto or Vancouver (let's not even talk about Spokane...). There's more to Kaslo than the lake & mountains. This village (and the surrounding area) is a hotbed of creativity. If you like your art lively, fun, bright, and just a little cheeky, make your way down to the amazingly un-stuffy Langham Gallery (right across the street from both the post office and the Legion) and check out this summer's exhibition by Kaslo-based visual artist Randy Morse. Morse, whose works appear in galleries and private collections across the continent, has put up a lively, intimate show that includes paintings from his private collection. Pop by more than once over the course of the summer, as some of the works will change from time to time. And if art alone isn't enough to slake your thirst for culture, drop by St. Andrew's Church Friday evening (the 25th) for a choral concert that will include Morse singing one of his recent songs ("A better place to be," sort of an anthem to Kaslo), backed by a rousing choir of lusty Western Canadians!
